I’ve been pining for an offical Makr Bottle Key for quite some time, but have always been discouraged by the price. Yes, I bet it is made from quality stock, but the major drawback is the thickness (more specifically thinness) of the key itself. This can be remedied by the addition of more keys, which sums up my problem with the bottle key. It’s pricy, and for the same cost you can probably find yourself a hacksaw and a metal file and do it yourself!

Granted my final product was a bit rough (using a Dremel the next round), but the minimalist functionality is all there. The lever platform is spread across 3 keys, providing more surface area on the bottle cap and thereby increasing the stability of the fulcrum. The cost? Well if you happen to have the tools already on hand, just a few spare keys and probably a Band-Aid or two. But most importantly, I can afford a round of brews with all the money I saved!
